The Innovators Forum – a future vision for Australia’s food industry attracted more than 70 delegates from around Australia for a two day conference June 7 -8. See all the details in our Innovation Forum section, and our Media section has the media release.
The lessons learned from Australian food industry innovators have also been been captured in a new large format book.
Launched at the Forum, the book titled 'The Innovators - A Future Vision for Australia's food industry' was a limited edition print run, but we can share it with you in PDF form.

First India, then Dubai and now the United Kingdom gets an 8 Steps toolkit. The NFIS Ltd Market Development team have been working with Austrade, the various State Depts. of Primary Industries and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to create these documents. online now. You'll find it along with find those from past years in our Facts and Figures section, choose the National Scorecard from the menu.
Facts and Figures
Along with the Scorecard, the latest 2005-2006 data on Australian Food Imports and Exports is now on our Key Industry Facts page and in our Report Archives. This data is cumulative from 1966 to 2006 and covers produce categories, sectors, levels of processing and much more.

Environmental Sustainability
NFIS Ltd sponsored the Allen Consulting Group report into Environmental Sustainability in the Australian Food Industry: the Commercial Opportunities in August 2004. The issues have now been examined in a major publication by the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Titled Assessing the Environmental Performance of the Food Value Chain 2006 it is available as a full report (1.46mb PDF) and a factsheet summary (327k PDF). Both are on the DAFF website publications area.
Innovation
Plant proteins from wheat retain a cereal flavour. The Manildra Group has developed technology that produces food ingredients from wheat protein which retain their nutritional value, have much less cereal flavour and allow replacement of more expensive protein sources, such as milk protein.

Chain Competitiveness
This NFIS Ltd project used the pineapple segment of Golden Circle as a catalyst for the first Lean project in Australia. Now, three years later, the project has proved so successful that the company have applied the process across all their business. Read more >
